On Finding What You Want.
It’s simple. But simple does not mean easy.
Carl Jung’s dictum for life was In Sterquiliniis Invenitur which translates to in the filth, it will be found.
I take it a step further: what you most want to find is where you least want to look.
You see Jung’s dictum play out in your favorite stories:
- Harry Potter had to go into the Chamber of Secrets to learn Tom Riddle is Lord Voldemort.
- Neo had to die in order to be resurrected, (and then kick some agent ass).
- John Creasy had to become extremely familiar—and confront his inner demons manifesting themselves as alcoholism—with the child trafficking business in order to save Pita.
His dictum has played out in my life as well more often than I’d like to admit, (I’m a slow learner). But it’s true, isn’t it?
It isn’t until we’re drowning in darkness that we’re able to see the light. And that’s when something beautiful happens. Because it is only when you face the darkness and horrors of life that you realize there’s more to you than there was to the horror.
But only if you look in the filth will you find what you’re searching for in this thing we call, “life.”
Because what you most want to find is where you least want to look.
